Ensign’s Priority To Keep Americans Safe Prevails In Second Debate

10/20/06

Senator John Ensign’s commitment to protecting America was the deciding factor in the second debate, which airs today on Face to Face on Las Vegas One.  National security issues, particularly wiretapping al Qaeda’s telephone calls, dominated the conversation hosted by Jon Ralston.  The differences are clear: John Ensign supports giving our military and intelligence agencies the tools they need to fight terrorism while Jack Carter has his facts wrong, priorities backward, and ignores costly delays on a key national security issue.

The debate focused on surveillance of terrorists’ telephone conversations.  Senator Ensign supports removing costly delays to wiretap a known terrorist.  Jack Carter believes we should get approval from the Attorney General before listening to al Qaeda’s phone conversations and then find a judge to authorize using the intercepted call to prosecute terrorists.
